Authoritative
As the infatuation for speculative crypto investing comes to a stop after melt down since early May, many reports show that enthusiasm for meme stocks returns and currently AMC Inc stock Being authoritative is crucial to handle unusual situations such when a company is under financial crisis or any other types of crisis which require a 180 degree switch in direction. Top officials especially CEO are responsible to enforce new standards which may not please everyone in the company. This style comes in quite often for companies especially start up that often face disruptions and challenges from large firms as direct competitors like SAP vs Salesforce. Thus, being over altruistic and democratic won’t necessarily resolve the challenges but having bias for action and agree to disagree may allow ones to break through the entangled circumstances. Of course, the risk is high to manage in this style because if your vision is not proven in time by offering the expected value, the businesses will fall apart. However, being taking the risk will only slow down the death if no changes have been implemented. The person who exercises this style should be the expertise in the areas crucial to execute the vision well. For example, to build a great product, you don’t need to know every low level details for the technology and the codes but you do need to have a good sense of each components’ limitations ,how to integrate them well with the right costs, having revolutionary design that disrupts the market, and optimizing your teams to execute the vision. Thus, an authoritative leadership must be an expert who has the complete ownership ,can understand every aspects of a product at a high level and should be able to answer particular questions related to the products. That’s why this type of leadership is often found in the founders of the company and it is hard to other executives to replicate the same level of understanding and obsession of the company and its core values. You can understand the past and present but we may not envision the future the same way and scale as the founders. Steve Jobs was ousted due its authoritative leadership which the board strongly disagreed after the success of Macintosh2 because stability is what they company embraces. His behaviour was considered childish, not sympathetic to the engineers, and not a democratic people but very manipulative and dictatorial. However, when Apple was almost bankrupt, it invited Steve Job back as the last resort and as expected he has made Apple the one we know of today the most valuable company on earth. In general only the founders can hit the reset button to redirect the ship back to its core values. I don’t disagree with being democratic, affiliative, and altruistic. They are fantastic when the company is in constant growth and very stabilized . However, being authoritative is the key to advance the game to next level especially if constant innovation is required to avoid being obsolete and can’t survive the next disruptions.
Innovative
In order to be innovative, ones must be willing to take great risk. Of course, it takes immense skills to measure and manage the risk. That’s also often the top executive’s job to tackle it. Jack Ma a famous entrepreneur has mentioned most people having thousands of ideas without any further action. Not only ones execute, but also must collaborate with the right people. Great practitioners in this leadership style excel at boosting the morals of the teams by clearly communicating the vision and positive results. Developing this style prepares me to start my own business which innovation is a big portion in the early stage. Combing with Authoritative style, it will be effective in delivering results and moving the business at the right pace and direction. This stye emphasizes collaborative conversation which I truly echo because no one person knows everything. As the commander or the orchestrator of the company, we ensure each teams functioning at their best and one way to strengthen it is by providing the vision and the chance for everyone to experience their own impact and success. I strongly believe if people share the same vision and mission, successful products will be our rewards and people with ownership should take pride in it. At the end of the day, we want all our contributors to take pride in what they have done. That’s why an innovative leadership doesn’t micromanage but respect well-thought ideas and challenges. However, we should not tolerate letting the B players who are short sighted affect the A players known as the true contributors to our missions. They tend to complaint for the irrelevant little details without positive suggestions and solutions. This type of leaders may seem intense due to insisting on highest standard and the determination to innovate at all cost for the success of the company. This is another style crucial to navigate through difficult situations that require serious leadership. We should not be afraid of disruptions and should aim to be the cause of the disruption. It is how a company stays fresh and enjoys the first mover advantages. We must remember that we can fail better every time and that one time success can turn everything upside down. We should never be satisfied with our current success and always behave as if we are in day 1.
